For over 10 generations, Reserva de la Familia® was a family secret only shared with the closest of friends. In 1995, to celebrate their 200-year anniversary, the family decided to share this special blend of Tequila reserve with people who truly savor an exceptional taste. Only the finest 10-12 year-old agaves are hand-selected,and only the most flavorful inner portion of the agave’s heart is used to make this award-winning 100% Blue Agave Extra Añejo Tequila. It is aged for a minimum of two years in the Cuervo family's private cellar and combined with family reserves as old as 30 years.
The bottle is made of brown, hand-blown glass, and is individually numbered and sealed with wax. Every year, the Cuervo family commissions a Mexican artist to design the new limited edition collectible box, making Reserva de la Familia® the ultimate gift. This year's collectible box artist, Carlos Aguirre, is considered one of the founders of contemporary art in Mexico.

Featuring Art by Melanie Smith
Based on her recent exhibition at the Hacienda Cuervo titled Parte o Pedazo, Smith has designed four boxes for Reserva de la Familia. All are deeply linked to Mexican themes, which include elements from the murals of iconic artist Diego Rivera, prints of agave plants, old maps of the Tequila region of Mexico, and layouts of Jose Cuervo's La Rojeiia distillery. The figures form collages that juxtapose historical references, reflect the transition from the pre-Hispanic to the modern world and from the field to the machine. Together, they form a rich, wide, and complex narrative, which underscores the position that tequila occupies in all areas of Mexican history and national symbology.
Melanie Smith was born in England in 1965. Since 1989, she has lived and worked in Mexico City. In 2011, she was the artist chosen to represent the country at the Venice Biennial, where she exhibited the project "Cuadrado Rojo, Imposible Rosa." She has shown her work - individually and collectively - in museums world-wide, such as the Hammer (Los Angeles), the Art of Lima (Lima, Peru), the Tamayo (Mexico City), the MoMA (New York), and the Tate Modern (London). In addition, she has penned numerous books including, "Ciudad Espiral y Otros Placeres Vicarios" (2006) and "Fordlandia" (2014).
